Don't confuse between taking legal risk with doing something illegal. You must be an idiot to think they are the same.
Poeple that sold $500K home to those who make $40K were not doing anything illegal. What they were doing was irresponsible. It is the guy that was making $40K, but lied on his application that he was making $80K that is the criminal.
And your assumption is that we are complaining about unethical behavior because we are in the US and we think that everyone in the US is ethical? How stupid are you? Sorry to burst your bubble, but we do not think so. I, and many like me, think we should do the right thing no matter where we are, here, India, or elsewhere.

There are rules and people smart enough and daring enough go ahead and push it/bend it as much as possible to achive what interests them most.
As of April 2009, the person who asked the original question and the consultant who asked the question assumed they should be able to land a contract job once October rolls around.
It is a common practice, without going into how it is unfair for the numerous others who have job offers in hand.
Now what would you say to the people who sold houses worth 500,000$ to the people who are making 40K per annum or so? The people who took the risk bear the reward or repercussions.

Now that they can't, they have this potential of being illegal stay/out of status or whatever that they have to deal with.
So I suppose, if we can help him with answers to the questions he is seeking and provide any guidance that will help him deal with the results of his decision , as many are doing on thread, that is great. If not, don't have get so preachy/flamey.

I've been coping with GC related stress by meditating as much as I can. Meditation releases endorphines which helps you calm down and have a clutter free mind. I know it is easier said than done, but it works. I also take meditative walks on weekends. We have trails near our house which take me to deep wooded area away from traffic and everything. I walk about 4-5 miles on weekends. Lately not walking due to cold. I also listen to Deepak Chopra, Joel Osteen, Wayne Dyer on Youtube. Hope this helps.

I got an email today from USCIS stating this
Current Status: Card production ordered.
I did not receive any other approval notice. I hope this means that our 485 is approved and the cards have been ordered ?

Had two infopass appointments
Raised SR on 8/5/2010

Hi,
Yesterday I got the response for my SR opened on 10/16 for still not receiving FP notice yet. The letter says that the processing on my case has been delayed since the background check on my application is still open. Please contact after 6 months if you still haven't heard back from us. My assumptions are:
1. Since they did not mention any where in the letter about biometrics, they are talking about my 485 petition and not my finger printing notice. Guess they misunderstood why I opened the SR with them. Does that make sense?

As far as my knowledge is concerned they cannot hold your wage amount...this is against law...They have to pay your wages completely...If you owe them they have to talk/fight (through law suit or something else) with you seperately...but that too after paying your wages...You can fight for your salary.
I work for company A which sent me to client C through company B(Prefered vendor). After working with the same client for 1.5 yrs, transfered my h1b to company B(PF) due to issues with the pay with company A. Company A has deducted huge sum of money($4000) from my last months pay towards PERM filing(Still under process). Upon demanding them to reimburse my money saying that its against law, they r threatening me saying that based on non-compete agreement they will take legal action against me.
I am not actually aware of the clauses in the agreement. company B(PF) told me that it does not have any clauses in its agreement with company A prohibiting them from taking me.Though i requested company A to provide me a copy of non-compete, they said i signed with them, they haven�t. The company is located in NJ and not sure how non-competes work under NJ state law.
I am really frustated upon this blackmail and going thru lot of pressure. The amount is too big too leave and cannot afford to hire a lawyer in case they file suit based on non-compete. even if i had signed a non compete agreement how does it stand as it is conflicting the agreement which company a signed with PF sayign tht upon my termination of the emplyment with them, Pf can take me without any gap period... what can i do to get my money. they also refused to provide me with experience letter which i need for my future GC filing.
Plz give me ur valuable inputs

What does ADIT processing means any idea is that we need to go to local USCIS office for the interview?

ok. Assuming BILL pass during the lame-duck session... what is timeline for it take effect? I believe the president has to signed it and it take 90 days from that date to be effective? Experts?

I think if there is a genuine reason , may be the 485 can be expedited.
1 Could you call up the IO and ask them what to do ?
2 Meanwhile check wiith ur lawyer.
I feel its better for ur wife to go back to the home country ..

Call them a lot of us did, when we got moved from one center (receipt notice) to another for processing. You should get a FP notice soon after you talked to them!

My I-140 was approved by NSC in feb 2007, and my I485 was delivered on aug 10 to TSC.
1. Does anyone think that my case might be transfered to NSC (since I140 was approved there).
2. Can i file for AP without getting recipt for 485 (instead of recipt i am planning to attach the fedex delivery notice)

My application reached NSC on 31 july 2007. Today I received my receipts from my lawyer.

But are we sure, all our applications will be transferred to TSC? I've heard that the new rule that the apps should be sent to TSC or NSC based on state u live in is gonna take effect only from this week....

Holy cow... I cannot believe, I got my green card today...
My online case status changed to card production ordered today (1 hour ago).
I had filed during july fiasco and was not abel to send my medical tests , so had got RFE.
Then i took the medicals and sent the response in july 2009, and the status remained RFE response received for a long time.
I called NSC and opened a service request on Aug 18.
Guys believe me Service Request does miracles, they just approved it now.
So my journey came to an end after 7 years.
If I got green card, the whole credit goes to IV. You guys are really great, learnt a lot from this forum. Kudos to you all...
I will continue to visit these forums and help as much as I can.
